Swansea, often overshadowed by its bigger, brassier neighbour, Cardiff, is a small jewel of a holiday destination which has a number of pleasures for the gay visitor.
In fact, Swansea University recently won a stunning accolade - being named as one of the most LGB friendly universities in the UK. The claim is made in the Stonewall University Guide, 2015, a highly researched and reliable guide to places where LGBT individuals will find a welcome. In fact, Swansea have scored 9/10 meaning they are in the top three of Welsh universities and top 20 nationwide.
Swansea - people and places
Swansea really is a small place, around 170,000 inhabitants, some of them students, so you start to feel at home very quickly. It's also quietly, but justifiably, proud of its famous sons and daughters who include:
Catherine Zeta Jones
Gay icon - need we say more?
Dylan Thomas
Poet, drinker, roisterer, the man who wrote 'Do not go gentle into that good night...' and a Swansea boy through and through. You can visit a number of key Swansea locations in Dylan Thomas's life, including his family home and the Grammar School he attended.
Russell T Davies
From 'Queer as Folk' to Dr Who, this Swansea-born writer is not just a driver of popular culture but he's quietly and comprehensively changed the way LGB characters are represented in the UK - Torchwood, for example, deals extensively with bisexuality and relationships in a way that just hadn't been seen before Captain Jack Harkness hit our screens.
Night-life
OMG Swansea has recently moved its LGBT fun franchise into Swansea, showing that the gay community is really making its mark on the market, whilst The Kings Arms is exceptionally gay friendly and Liberty's has its own LGBT following.
Swansea Gay Escorts
Welsh Boys are Hot Boys! and the Sleepy Boy Gay Escorts that are located in and around Swansea are no different! Ready and waiting for a call, browse the sleepyboy.com website to find your favourtie Swansea Boy!
Camping
So, Swansea and camping … what's the deal? It's simple - the Gower peninsula, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world - is just a short drive from Swansea. Now camp and camping might not be your idea of fun, but there really is a campsite for everyone. We particularly favour the Three Cliffs Bay Campsite, which is as wild as you can imagine, you can pretty well only trek in on foot, through forests, fording streams and over sand dunes, passing craggy castles and spotting all kinds of wildlife. But once you are arrive, the ruggedness stops - you don't even have to camp; it's possible to rent a little shepherd's hut or a cottage to stay in, and there are opportunities to wine and dine on sight.
Gay Outdoor Club - West Wales (Swansea)
If you're the outdoor type, then the Gay Outdoor Club (GOC) West Wales branch might be a great place to contact before your Swansea break. They offer country walks for the LGBT community of around 6-8 miles, through some of the most stunning scenery of Wales, plus regular shorter walks and cycle rides as well as social events and they are always glad to welcome visitors.
We hope this little guide helps you make the most of your time in this very popular Welsh City.
